Extra Credit
As young adults, you should be keeping up with current events, so you can make informed decisions as you get older. This is election year and the candidates have already begun battling it out for the seat in the White House. Last night (10/3/2012) was the first of three debates that Mitt Romney (R) and Barack Obama (D) will have. Each 60 minute debate will focus on different topics that are important to the American people.
Your assignment is to watch about 15-20 minutes of last night’s debate and simply give me your opinion of both candidates using TEXTUAL EVIDENCE from the debate or online sources (attach the link if you are using an online news article). I don’t want you tell me that Obama is better because he is better looking. Or that Romney did a better job because he had a nicer tie on J
Once you have your evidence and opinion formed, go to our class blog and post your findings. You should give us a short comparison of both candidates and 1-2 paragraphs explaining their position and your opinion. You can agree or disagree, but tell me why.

ReplyDeleteI believe President Barack Obama, did a better job than Governor Mitt Romney because Romney kept on contradicting himself during the first half hour of the first debate. For instance, Romney says he wants to cancel PBS, by doing that he would be putting people out of jobs. Yet later on he would say I want to provide more jobs for people. I would definitely vote for Obama, to get his second term because throughout his first term he actually made some significant changes, and for a new president to come along, and change everything. It would be like what was the point of trying to improve getting jobs, or lowering taxes. Obama wants to hire more teachers, and wants to keep intuitions low for students. I agree with his entire point of view on cutting down middle class peoples taxes so that the middle class people can have some money left in their pockets.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, did a good job although he repeated himself most of the time, that was his way of sending his point across. Obama is opened about education and states that he wants to make college affordable by reducing the rates on student loans. This is beneficial for us because as juniors we have to be looking into the future and seek the path that is more beneficial to us. Even though Governor Romney had good ideas such as creating 12 million jobs, he always deviates himself from the big question. How? I believe that this was a tough debate with both sides battling to conquer the other, but I have to hand it to Barack Obama.
ReplyDeletePresident Obama claims he wishes to invest in education (low tuition) and training; develop new sources of energy; rebuild America using money saved. Obama proposed the 4 trillion dollar deficit plan. He wishes to balance spending cuts amongst revenue. He too wishes to low health care costs (Medicare). "Equal Opportunity".
ReplyDeleteCandidate Romney claims he wishes to become energy independent, open trading amongst foreign lands, balance budgets, and invest in small businesses. He is in favor of reducing tax rates (to relieve burdens on the middle class). He encourages economic growth. He claims, "it's all about getting jobs for the American people".
Overall, I do understand Romney's perspective. Many Americans are unemployed and must support their very families. The economy suffers greatly today. Obama leaned towards funding education; pursuing an education to those entering college. The impact on the American people concern employment. Obama, on the other hand, argues a great position too for "our" generation must pursue an education to achieve (career wise, financial wise, etc.) I happen to agree with both candidates. However, I believe Obama's position will provide greater success for today's young adults.
